The Shovels add-on saves your API key in each Sheet, not in your Google account. Anyone who edits a Shovels formula in that Sheet spends the key’s credits.
The add-on saves your API key in the Sheet, not in your Google account. You set the key once in each Sheet, and every Shovels formula in that Sheet uses it.
In the Sheet, choose Extensions → Shovels → Set API key…
Paste the key and click OK.
The add-on checks the key with the Shovels API before it saves it. When the key works, a notice shows the credits it has used this month, for example “120 of 500 credits used this month.”If the API refuses the key, the dialog says “Shovels refused this API key, so it was not saved.” Copy the key again from your account and try once more.
Every edit to a Shovels formula in the Sheet spends the key’s credits, whoever makes the edit. Share a Sheet that holds your key only with people who may use your credits.
Viewers who can’t edit the Sheet see the stored results and spend nothing.
Replace: choose Set API key… again and paste the new key. The new key replaces the old one. Results already in the Sheet stay and are not fetched again.
Remove: choose Extensions → Shovels → Remove API key… Results already in the Sheet stay. New and changed formulas show “Shovels: fetching…” until someone sets a key again.
One Google user can set a key in at most 20 Sheets. Each Sheet with a key holds one edit trigger of the user who set the key, and Google allows each user 20 triggers per add-on. At the 21st Sheet, the Set API key dialog shows an error and does not save the key.To set a key in another Sheet, open a Sheet that needs no new results and choose Remove API key… there. That frees one of your 20 slots.
